This workshop will familiarize you with the basic tools and techniques needed for designing pieces for lost wax casting of jewelry scale objects.
These skills are the precursor to casting: this workshop prepares you for The Alcademy's next workshop, Lost Wax Casting Techniques: February 2013.

In Wax Modeling for Jewelers we will begin by learning about the materials and tools & move quickly into our own projects.

Some of what we will explore:
* Different types of waxes and when and where they are best applied.
* Various tools used, from hand carving tools, engravers and knives to rotary tools, ball burr and the flex shaft.
* Wax Finishing & polishing techniques to make your piece look professional and fantastic: including solvents, abrasives and heat.

All tools and materials supplied by The Alcademy

Jerry Gehringer's extensive experience in metal working offers the old tyme secrets of this craft. With the limited class size, you can expect personal and specific instruction, tailored to your needs.  Jerry is so very excited to share these teachings that are rapidly disappearing from the world; many schools of higher education no longer offer these techniques.  We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity!
